Whimsical Florals at Walden Chicago

Crystal and Nick’s March wedding at Walden Chicago was a whimsical, romantic celebration filled with cooler-toned blooms and playful, garden-inspired details. With a palette of light purples, blues, pinks, and periwinkle — plus pops of deeper indigo and crisp white — the floral design struck a perfect balance between elegance and creative expression. Crystal was first drawn to our work after seeing the dreamy arrangements from the Sarabande styled shoot, especially the uniquely shaped, squiggly-stemmed flowers. For their celebration, Crystal and Nick wanted florals that felt imaginative, artful, and full of movement — and we couldn’t wait to bring that vision to life. Check out the following photos by Emilee Brown Photography - she captured the florals in such a dreamy way.

Crystal’s bouquet was a reflection of the day’s whimsical, romantic energy. We designed it with a soft, gathered shape that felt organic and slightly wild — full of texture, movement, and personality. Cooler-toned blooms like lilac, delphinium, and anemone mingled with delicate touches of blush and periwinkle, all anchored by deeper indigo accents for a bit of contrast. Squiggly-stemmed florals and airy greens added a playful, garden-inspired feel, making the bouquet look as if it had been plucked from a spring meadow and arranged with care.

The bride & groom looked amazing, and the bridal party looked suave as heck too! The guys wore black tuxes with boutonnieres to match the groom. As for the bridesmaids, they all wore long, silky dresses in blues, purple, and dark blush. They held similar bouquets to the bride, only smaller.

The ceremony space was designed to feel ethereal and artful, with sculptural floral arrangements that played with height, movement, and negative space. For the ceremony backdrop, we created four large, asymmetrical pieces that rested on pedestals at varying levels. They created a floating effect with squiggly lines and soft, sweeping shapes. At the entrance to the aisle, two gold swan vases overflowing with blooms welcomed guests — a whimsical touch that matched the day’s romantic tone. After the ceremony, the larger arrangements were repurposed to frame the sweetheart table, extending their beauty well into the reception.

We’re obsessed with the lighting that filtered onto those pedestal blooms. So good!

For the reception, we created two distinct dinner table centerpiece styles that created a dynamic, yet cohesive look. Some tables featured low white ceramic vessels filled with loose, natural arrangements — blooms spilling over the edges, with freesia and trailing amaranthus adding movement and softness. These were surrounded by pleated glass votives that cast a warm, flickering glow. Other tables showcased a pair of ikebana-inspired designs in low oval vases, each paired with clusters of colored taper candles in modern white holders and more votives for a romantic finish. At the sweetheart table, we repurposed the ceremony florals, grounding them with a dreamy mix of tapers and votives on both the tabletop and the floor — a glowing focal point for the newlyweds.

Cheers to you, Crystal and Nick! We absolutely loved bringing your floral vision to life.
